We chatted with Ashley Scott, creator and designer behind Drapes By Ashley Scott, about her source of inspiration, personal style, and how she got the nickname “Drapes.”

You started as a painter. Are there influences of that in your work?

It definitely influences my work. I’m obsessed with romanticism and the kind of art that tells a story. That’s what I aspire to do with my pieces—create a narration others can relate to.

What’s the story behind naming your brand “Drapes?”

I take my inspiration from drapery, tassels, romanticism, and movement. That’s where the name came from. People actually started calling me that when I first started designing. It has stayed with me since. I’ve incorporated it into my designs aesthetically as well as named my entire brand after it. Drapes really is such a large part of me. I ask myself how I would want to feel when I put on a bold piece. Having fun has always been my motto. I love playing dress up and I want wearers of my pieces to experience the same kind of thrill. That’s why I make jewelry that you can just put on and wear. Don’t over think—just do it!

What’s one piece of jewelry you can’t leave the house without?

The disk necklace I designed is the one piece I cannot leave without. It goes with everything in my wardrobe. I find myself wearing it way too much to ever leave without it.

So I watched a serious marathon of the show Discover Planet Ocean last night and I’m telling you it was epic… I captured a few screen shots because I couldn’t resist. Most of these pictures are from Suruga Bay which is in Japan. The beauty of it all will just inspire anyone..and I went to sleep with beautiful dreams…..

This morning I opened my May issue of Vogue and saw a story on Shala Monroque (love her!). She partnered with organizations in St. Lucia, where she grew up. Their goal is to teach kids on the island to swim and snorkel and to appreciate and preserve marine life.

Oh Vogue..you always make so much sense..:)

It’s finally Hereeeeeeee!!!!

Today The Rotterdam based site DETOX FROM SOCIETY debuted with plenty!!!:) and Drapes is a featured brand!;) yayyy

This is bigger than just being carried in Holland but this is my friend! It’s so great to embark on this journey together!!!…sigh..;) I’m so proud of her and what she has accomplished…we used to sit and talk about this and now it’s finally happening!!! <3
